The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education will convene a study session on Friday, May 7 to review the current list of budget reductions and to discuss the impact of the Measure CC parcel tax election on the school district budget.
Based on the election results as of May 4, PUSD leaders anticipate that the number of approval votes will fall short of the two-thirds majority required for passage. In December, the Board of Education approved approximately $23 million in reductions to cover the loss of funding from state budget cuts. Measure CC would have allowed the district to preserve more teachers’ jobs, arts and music programs, and library services.
On Friday, the Board will reexamine the proposed reductions to allocate funding toward the highest educational priorities, identify flexible sources of funding for critical programs, and align external resources with instructional initiatives.
“Our goal is to target funding toward positions, activities and programs that will help sustain our momentum in improving academic achievement,” said Edwin Diaz, Superintendent.
No items are agendized for vote at the study session. Action items related to the 2010-11 budget will be considered on May 11.
